Description
The WIDAL Test (O & H Antigens) is a serological diagnostic test used for the detection of enteric fever (typhoid and paratyphoid fevers) caused by Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi. The test detects agglutinating antibodies (O = somatic antigen, H = flagellar antigen) present in a patient’s serum.
Type: Slide or tube agglutination test
Reagents: Contains standardized suspensions of Salmonella typhi O and H antigens (sometimes includes S. paratyphi AH, BH antigens as well).
Sample Required: Patient’s serum
Result Time: Within minutes (slide method) or few hours (tube method)
