The WIDAL Test (O & H Antigens) is a serological diagnostic test used for the detection of enteric fever (typhoid and paratyphoid fevers) caused by Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi. The test detects agglutinating antibodies (O = somatic antigen, H = flagellar antigen) present in a patient’s serum. Type: Slide or tube agglutination test Reagents: Contains standardized suspensions of Salmonella typhi O and H antigens (sometimes includes S. paratyphi AH, BH antigens as well). Sample Required: Patient’s serum Result Time: Within minutes (slide method) or few hours (tube method) Key Features: Detects antibodies to Salmonella typhi (O & H antigens) Simple, rapid, and cost-effective diagnostic method Suitable for both screening and confirmation Easy-to-use reagents with clear agglutination visibility Commonly available in 5 ml, 10 ml, or kit form Uses: Diagnosis of typhoid and paratyphoid fever Screening test in pathology labs, hospitals, and diagnostic centers Helps clinicians in early diagnosis and treatment planning
